It's bizarre to think $6-7mm is now the going rate for 20-30 goal scorers. But when the big dogs are now getting $9-11, i guess it's right in line with the cap.
Go get Okposo. |

This will be a huge mistake. If true, I don't know why Murray seems to think he needs to make a big splash this season. I get you missed out on the big fish, but it is no reason to now overpay for a smaller one. You missed the big one, stay the course, Okposo does not make the Sabres a competitor faster. The sabres are probably still 2 to 3 years away from needing to make move like this.
As a leaf fan I hope Lou stays away from the so called big UFA this year. |

What happens when Risto gets $6 million, Okposo gets $6 million and then someone files offer sheets to Samson for $8 million and $11 million for Eichel in 2 years? |

Exactly, from a Leafs fan no less. I had a higher opinion of GMTM. If they sign Okposo, especially to a ridiculous contract, I'll lose all faith in him.

Does Buffalo really have that much to spend?
Yes, technically we have $19.5M.....but isn't that not counting the fact that Risto, Foligno, Girgs, and McCabe are RFA, SO more than half of that is gone right off the bat, no? |

Me too. It's not even his annual salary it's the 6-7 year contrace he'll demand.
Stay away.

7/42? $6M isn't "crazy money" for Okposo. $6M would be a great deal. $8M is crazy Okposo money. |

Run up the value for Okposo; hopefully a close to the cap team will overpay then go after their RFA's. |

I think the worst part is the 7 years, not so much the 6 mill annual salary. |

The Leafs r not interested in him so stop making this poop up so u can turn around and say the Sabres beat the Leafs to him |

I don't think the 6 million is bad for him. He isn't worth 7 years. Also, I don't think he will make the Sabres or the leafs much better. He is 28 and will be over 30 before these teams windows to complete will be open. He is a secondary player, and they are available every year, and with the cap looking like it will stall, or go up 1 or 2 million a year, even more will be available in the future.
There is no need for either team to waste big money on secondary player, when neither teams currently knows for sure what they have.

I don't hate Okposo. I think he is a very good player.

If that happens (unlikely) I'd say you match Eichel for whatever, but if someone is willing to offer sheet (highly unlikely) Reinhart for 8 AAV, that averages to 4 first rounders. You let him walk, collect 4 firsts, have Eichel and ROR is your 1 -2 centers. Pretty easy decision if you ask me. |

I agree with this too. Plus, GMTM has been noted to go after guys under 26 to build from. I get every team needs veteran players but overpaying on term and cap will handcuff us at some point |

If you are using this years numbers. 8 AAV only gets you 2 first, a 2nd and a 3rd. You need to offer over 9.3 million for 4 first rounders.
What would be interesting is if someone offered 7.5million. That only gets you a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. You don't want to give him up for that, but that number could wreck havoc on your salary cap going forward. Especially if you sign Okposo to this silly contract.

move Bogosian and Kane
beat Boston and there crazy idea for Trouba
Kulikov-Risto
McCabe-Trouba
Gorges-Franson
Franson and Kulikov are UFA's so there will be no question who you keep before the expansion draft, you expose Gorges and maybe they don't bite on him. Sabres would still have a solid 4 defenseman going into 17'-18'. I would even be ok wtih Demers short term. Sounds like soupy is going back to Chicago 1yr 2million. |

Ah I was thinking the old CBA where it was like 7.468 Mil nets the 4 firsts. Yeah, I don't know what you would do if that was the case. I would imagine signing him, then having to move someone. I don't see it happening, just what I would do. |

They also have decisions on Kane, Bogo, Gorges as well as Moulson and Gionta retiring being pushed out. I wouldn't worry about the cap, as most of those middle to large will be gone when most of the kids need to be reupped. |
